A Strategic Port in the Heart of Skálafjørður

The Port of Toftir (Tofta Havn) is located on the eastern arm of Skálafjørður, one of the most sheltered and industrially active fjords in the Faroe Islands. With its central position and strong connection to key seafood and logistics companies, Tofta Havn plays a vital role in Faroese maritime industry and coastal trade.

Maritime Activity & Industrial Cluster

Tofta Havn handles approximately 400 vessel calls per year from ships over 50 GT, in addition to around 2,000 smaller vessels and deck boats. This confirms the port’s role as a highly active maritime hub within Skálafjørður.

Several key Faroese maritime and seafood companies are located directly alongside the port, including:

  • Føroya Fiskamarknaður (Faroese Fish Market)

  • Landingarmiðstøðin á Toftum (Landing Centre)

  • Kassamiðstøðin

  • Bakkafrost

  • Sandship

  • Faroe Origin

  • Salt Import

This industrial proximity ensures short turnaround times, efficient land‑sea logistics, and strong operational synergies.

Port Infrastructure & Capacity

The main commercial quay offers a total working quay length of approx. 565 meters, with water depths typically ranging from 6.0 to 8.5 meters, making it suitable for a wide range of fishing vessels, cargo ships, and service vessels. 1

Key infrastructure features include:

  • Solid quay structures suitable for industrial operations

  • Direct access to seafood processing and logistics facilities

  • Reliable depth conditions along most of the quay

Marina & Small Vessel Facilities

In addition to its commercial port facilities, Tofta Havn includes a marina at Oyrarnar, offering berths for approximately 90–100 leisure boats and smaller deck vessels. This supports both local maritime activity and visiting vessels

Services & Utilities

The port is fully equipped to support vessels and crews with essential services, including:

  • Fresh water and electricity available throughout the port area

  • 24/7 port authority availability

  • Safe and well‑regulated harbor operations

  • ISPS‑certified security framework

Tofta Havn responds around the clock, ensuring reliability for both scheduled calls and unscheduled arrivals.

Navigation & Safety

  • VHF Channels: 16, 12, 13

  • Continuous monitoring and response

  • Clear port regulations for both sea and land‑based berthing

The port operates under municipal regulations issued by Nes Municipality, ensuring predictable and well‑managed operations for all users.
