The Port of Vágur has proudly marked the beginning of its 2026 cruise season with the arrival of two distinguished expedition vessels, each making their first-ever call to the picturesque Faroese port.
The season commenced with the arrival of Greg Mortimer, which entered Vágur for the very first time, bringing with it both excitement and energy to the community. The vessel carried 73 guests and 90 crew members, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the town throughout the day.
Despite challenging weather conditions, with heavy fog surrounding the island, the day’s planned excursions were thoughtfully adapted. Instead of venturing further afield, guests were invited to experience the richness of Vágur itself—its culture, people, and local attractions—offering a more intimate and authentic insight into Faroese life.
To commemorate this historic first visit, a traditional plaque exchange ceremony was held on board, marking the beginning of what is hoped to be a lasting relationship between the port and the vessel.
Shortly thereafter, Port of Vágur welcomed a second milestone visit, as MS Expedition also made her maiden call to the harbor. The vessel arrived with 96 guests and 70 crew members, all eager to explore the natural beauty and community spirit of the Faroe Islands. Guests spent the day engaging with the local environment and experiencing the unique charm that defines Vágur.

As part of the celebration, representatives from the Port of Vágur joined the captain and crew of MS Expedition on board for another plaque exchange ceremony, honoring the significance of the visit and strengthening ties for future collaboration.
These visits highlight the growing appeal of Vágur as a destination for expedition cruising, where visitors are drawn not only to dramatic landscapes but also to welcoming communities and authentic experiences.
The Port of Vágur extends its sincere appreciation to all partners involved in making these calls a success, including Aurora Expeditions, G Adventures, Tor Shipping, MB Tours, Kajakk.fo (Sigurð Davidsen and Vanja Davidsen), and Faroe Ship Agency, as well as the dedicated captains and crews of both vessels.
With two successful maiden calls already completed, the 2026 cruise season in Vágur is officially underway—setting a strong foundation for continued growth and memorable experiences in the months ahead.
