Funningur warmly welcomed its first cruise visitors of the year yesterday, as the expedition vessel Ocean Explorer made its way to the village’s picturesque shores.

Anchored in the tranquil fjord, the ship brought a total of 88 cruise guests along with a crew of 20. Visitors came ashore in Zodiac boats, creating an intimate and authentic arrival experience that set the tone for their time in this charming Faroese village.
The majority of guests traveled from the United States, joined by visitors from Australia, Canada, and across Europe—each eager to experience the unique culture and natural beauty of the Faroe Islands.
In true Faroese fashion, the weather offered a little bit of everything, with both snow and sunshine throughout the day. Rather than dampening spirits, the ever-changing conditions only added to the authenticity and excitement of the visit, giving guests a memorable taste of the islands’ distinctive climate.
The day proved to be a great success, thanks in large part to the welcoming and dedicated residents of Funningur, who went above and beyond to greet the visitors with warmth and hospitality. Their efforts ensured a meaningful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Faroe Ship acts as the local agent for Ocean Explorer, facilitating the smooth arrival and stay of the vessel.
Funningur is already looking forward to its next cruise call, scheduled in just two weeks—on May 23—marking another exciting opportunity to share the village’s charm with the world.
