SANDSHIP's newest vessel begins operations in the North Atlantic feed trade

Vón Arctic, the newest vessel in the SANDSHIP fleet, has loaded fish feed from BioMar in Norway and is now en route to Iceland, where the cargo will be discharged for the country's aquaculture industry.

The vessel's first voyage marks the beginning of a new long-term shipping arrangement involving the regular transport of fish feed between Norway, Iceland, and Scotland.

The company reports that it is highly satisfied with the vessel following an extensive five-month conversion and upgrade project carried out in Poland.

Built in 2010, Vón Arctic has a cargo capacity of approximately 2,500 tonnes of fish feed and has been equipped with advanced energy-saving technology designed to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

A modern optimization system supplied by Emerson automatically controls the vessel's engine and propeller to ensure operations are continuously adjusted for the lowest possible CO₂ emissions. The technology, which represented an investment of around DKK 2 million, is expected to reduce fuel consumption by 10 to 20 percent annually.

Thanks to these upgrades, the company believes that Vón Arctic is among the most environmentally efficient feed carriers on the market when measured by CO₂ emissions per tonne of feed transported per nautical mile.

The vessel becomes the sixth ship in the SANDSHIP fleet. The company's other vessels are Vón Feeder, Vestland, Vitin, Vestborg, and Sandfrakt.

The maiden commercial voyage to Iceland is seen as the first step in what the company hopes will become a long-lasting and reliable partnership in marine transportation across the North Atlantic, supporting the continued growth of the aquaculture industry in the region.
