Bakkafrost welcomed Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to officially open their Applecross RAS — the UK’s largest recirculating aquaculture system and a major step forward in sustainable Scottish salmon production.
During her visit, The Princess Royal Bakkafrost's teams and learned how advanced technology is helping improve fish welfare, reduce environmental impact and support high-skilled rural jobs.

At the heart of the development is Bakkafrost's ‘one summer at sea’ approach — allowing salmon to grow longer in controlled freshwater conditions before transfer to sea. This has the potential to significantly improve survival, reduce biological challenges, and make better use of natural resources.
Applecross supports around 40 skilled roles and represents a significant long-term investment in innovation, renewable energy and regional supply chains.
"We are proud to showcase the people, partnerships and technology behind this facility — and the role it plays in shaping the future of Scottish salmon farming." Bakkafrost says
