Oil company EFFO will relocate and centralise its national operations at the newly developed harbor area in Søldarfjørður, marking a major upgrade for the Faroe Islands’ fuel and maritime infrastructure.

The move comes as Runavík Municipality completes the new port this summer, after which EFFO will begin constructing a modern energy terminal that will serve as the company’s main operational hub.
The new fuel depot is expected to be completed by late 2027, significantly expanding the country’s storage capacity. Current tanks at Viðarnes in Tórshavn will remain in place, as they are not included in the dismantling plans.
Significant Improvement in Bunkering Accessibility
The new terminal will greatly enhance access to bunkering services for fishing vessels, cargo ships, and international transit traffic. Søldarfjørður’s central location in the Faroe Islands, combined with modern fuel storage, will enable:
Faster and more reliable refueling for domestic and foreign vessels
Larger storage capacity, improving supply security
More efficient logistics, as EFFO consolidates operations into a single hub
With this development, Søldarfjørður is set to strengthen its long‑standing position as one of the North Atlantic’s key refueling points.
