ENGLISH | Port of Klaksvík joins EPI

Port of Klaksvík Joins the Environmental Port Index, Strengthening the Faroe Islands’ Sustainability Commitment.

Building on Port of Tórshavn’s entry in 2024, the Port of Klaksvík becomes the second Faroese port to implement the @Environmental Port Index (EPI) —a key step in advancing environmental accountability in maritime operations.

📍 Klaksvík: A Gateway to the Northern Faroes

As the second-largest city in the Faroe Islands, Klaksvík has a rich history of welcoming cruise ships, offering guests an authentic northern Faroese experience. Now, with EPI adoption, the port reinforces its commitment to balancing economic benefits with sustainable practices.

🔹 Annfinn Hjelm, EPI Ambassador:

-"This marks an encouraging trend of port participation in environmental responsibility, reflecting a positive shift in a more sustainable maritime development."

EPI Ambassador Annfinn Hjelm is pleased with the development

🔹 John Syderbø, Commercial Director, Klaksvík Municipality:

-"EPI implementation signals a renewed focus on the cruise industry’s role in our community. We aim to highlight its economic contributions while ensuring environmental impact monitoring remains a priority."

📈 Looking Ahead

The Port of Klaksvík continues to attract growing interest, paving the way for a sustainable and forward-thinking cruise industry in the Faroe Islands.
