GroAqua has delivered a new feed barge, Torvgjógv, to Fuglafjørður for Bakkafrost. It is 40 meters long and can hold 700 tons of fish feed, making it the newest addition to Bakkafrost’s fleet.

The barge is equipped with 18 feeding lines, allowing it to feed 18 fish cages simultaneously. It was built in Poland, while the feeding systems and control technology were developed by GroAqua in the Faroe Islands.
The new system includes advanced software using artificial intelligence to optimise feeding efficiency, improve operations, enhance reporting capabilities, and increase environmental performance. The system is automated and can be remotely controlled from shore.
In the future, the barge will run on shore power to reduce environmental impact.
Once testing and approvals are completed, it will begin operations at Fuglafjørður. Bakkafrost expects the new barge to strengthen operations, improve logistics, and increase safety.
Over the past year, GroAqua has delivered four feed barges to Bakkafrost in the Faroe Islands, with capacities of 700 and 1,100 tons, serving multiple farming locations.
