The pelagic vessel Norðborg will be docked in Tórshavn for the next 6 months while the factory is replaced. Jón Rasmussen, chairman of the board at Christian í Grótinum, says to the Faroese KVF that replacing the factory is absolutely necessary.

The job was put out to tender, and MEST won the contract in competition with foreign shipyards.
Norðborg is 16 years old, and nothing has been replaced in the factory during these years. The original plan at Christiani í Grótinum was to build a new Norðborg, but that plan was abandoned because the cost was too high. A new vessel would have cost more than DKK 800 million.
The work will be carried out at MEST, which won the project in competition with foreign shipyards. In total, the work and the new factory will cost around DKK 140 million.
