New regular freight route between the Faroe Islands and Scotland.

Samskip has launched a new regular freight service between the Faroe Islands and Scotland. The service will sail twice a week from Runavík, calling at Vágur before continuing to Scrabster. The first vessel to call at Vágur will be Silver Pearl, arriving around midnight.

The new route is an important development for Vágur Port and businesses in Suðuroy. A regular freight connection will provide Faroese companies with faster and more direct access to the UK market and onward connections.

Samskip will operate the route with MV Silver Arctic. A long-term agreement with FarCargo, Bakkafrost’s transport company, will provide an important foundation for the service, with the export of Faroese salmon expected to account for a significant share of the freight. The route will also be available to other Faroese and British businesses, allowing goods to be transported in both directions.

The new service is expected to improve logistics for companies in Suðuroy and reduce the amount of freight currently transported by the Smyril ferry between Suðuroy and Tórshavn. This could also improve conditions for passengers, particularly during busy periods and delays.

Scrabster, in northern Scotland, offers good connections to markets and transport hubs across the UK. Samskip has worked with local partners to establish a logistics solution covering unloading, transshipment and onward transport.

For Vágur Port, the new service represents an important step in developing the port and increasing commercial activity.

Vágur Port has a 5,000-square-metre port area with quay and ro-ro facilities, several berthing positions, ISPS approval and port services available around the clock.
