New scientific review article on Faroese fjords and straits

A new scientific review article has been published, providing a comprehensive overview of current knowledge about the oceanographic and biological conditions in Faroese fjords and sounds.

The purpose of the article is to bring together existing research and present a consolidated picture of the unique marine environments found around the Faroe Islands.

Drawing on both Faroese and international scientific publications, the review compiles knowledge that has previously been scattered across numerous research papers and reports into a single, accessible source.

The article highlights that Faroese fjords differ significantly from the larger and more enclosed fjord systems found in neighbouring countries. Faroese fjords are generally shorter, shallower, and more closely connected to the open ocean, resulting in distinctive oceanographic processes and biological characteristics.

The publication represents an important contribution to the understanding of Faroese coastal ecosystems and provides a valuable scientific foundation for future research, environmental management, and marine industries.

The work reflects the expertise and dedication of the highly skilled researchers at Firum, whose research continues to advance knowledge of Faroese marine environments and support the sustainable development of the country's aquaculture and coastal resources.
