Faroe Ship is taking an important step forward in strengthening the Faroe Islands' connection to European markets with the launch of a new weekly direct shipping service between the Faroe Islands and Rotterdam.

Starting in August 2026, the vessel Skogafoss will operate an exclusive weekly route connecting the Faroe Islands directly with one of Europe's largest logistics hubs. The new service is designed to provide Faroese businesses with faster and more efficient access to mainland Europe, reducing transit times for both exports and imports.
The route will offer significant advantages for Faroese exporters, enabling goods to reach customers across continental Europe more quickly through a direct connection from the Faroe Islands.
At the same time, Faroese importers will benefit from new supply chain opportunities and shorter delivery times compared to existing transport solutions.
The vessel will depart Tórshavn every Tuesday evening, arriving in Rotterdam on Thursday evening, before returning to Tórshavn on Monday. In the coming weeks, Ålesund, Norway, will be added as a northbound port of call, while the southbound journey from the Faroe Islands will continue directly to Rotterdam.
Steinar H. Eirikstoft, CEO of Faroe Ship, highlighted the strategic importance of the new route:
“Faroe Ship's vision is to create progress for people and businesses in the communities where we operate. The Faroe Islands are geographically distant from many of our key markets, making reliable transport solutions essential for Faroese businesses and society as a whole. We are therefore delighted to introduce a direct route to mainland Europe served by a dedicated vessel, and we look forward to offering our customers this new opportunity.”
The first sailing from Tórshavn is scheduled for 4 August 2026.
For the Faroe Islands, improved maritime connectivity is vital for supporting exports, attracting investment, and strengthening the nation's position in the North Atlantic economy. The new Rotterdam service represents an important development for sectors such as seafood, manufacturing, logistics, and international trade, helping Faroese businesses reach European markets more efficiently than ever before.
As a nation built on maritime expertise and global trade links, the Faroe Islands continue to demonstrate how strategic investments in shipping infrastructure can create new opportunities for sustainable economic growth and international collaboration.
