Stakeholder Event on Pelagic Fisheries in the Northeast Atlantic 🐟🚢

On September 3rd, Ocean Cluster Faroes hosted an event focused on pelagic fisheries in the Northeast Atlantic, bringing together around 40 participants.

Several presentations were held, focusing on a variety of challenges and opportunities within the sector.

Marjun á Fríðriksmørk Berbisá, an industrial PhD candidate at @Varðin Pelagic and Fróðskaparsetur Føroya, shared exciting insights on using environmental DNA (eDNA) to better understand fish migration and improve monitoring methods in collaboration with the fishing industry

Mirjam Carlsdóttir Olsen, researcher at Sjókovin, presented results from the MarineSABRES project, discussing challenges and opportunities relating to sustainability in pelagic fisheries, presenting the perspectives of stakeholders from the industry, administration, research, and the public across the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Greenland

Sanna Laksá, economist at Sjókovin, introduced the MeCCAM project, and in particular the Northeast Atlantic case study. Sanna presented the solutions that MeCCAM will develop and implement to adapt and mitigate pelagic fisheries to climate change, including improved tools, data use, and climate-informed fisheries management

The event wrapped up with discussions and stakeholder input on the work ahead
