A new brine-based fire suppression system for EV fires is now sailing across the Atlantic.

Developed by Skansi Offshore in close cooperation with KNUD E. HANSEN, the system is installed on Norröna, operating the world’s longest RoPAX route between Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Iceland – and is now on its way to be installed on a new RoRo vessel.
The concept is simple: penetrate one window and flood the cabin with ice-cold, saturated saltwater. It cools the battery casing, suppresses flames and smoke, prevents thermal runaway, and deactivates the battery – using only natural ingredients and standard fire hoses.
A full-scale test proved its effectiveness by extinguishing a fully developed EV fire in under one hour. 🔥
A low-tech, low-cost, high-impact solution to one of the biggest onboard fire risks of our time.
