Bakkafrost boosts Q2 earnings despite market pressure

Bakkafrost delivered a strong improvement in earnings during the second quarter of 2026, reporting an operational profit of DKK 273 million, up from DKK 65 million in the same period last year.

The increase was driven mainly by strong performance in the Faroe Islands, where harvest volumes reached 26,749 tonnes and fish health remained favourable. Harvest costs were also lower than a year ago.

While falling salmon prices and a sharp rise in global supply created challenges, CEO Regin Jacobsen said the company was satisfied with its operational progress.

Bakkafrost also highlighted continued investments, including the launch of its new smolt facility in Skálavík and the upcoming commissioning of the new Havsbrún feed plant.

In Scotland, results remained below expectations due to low harvest volumes and higher costs, though the company expects improvements as more large, company-produced smolts enter production.

Looking ahead, Bakkafrost maintains its 2026 harvest guidance of approximately 97,000 tonnes in the Faroe Islands and 20,000 tonnes in Scotland, supported by continued focus on fish health, efficiency and sustainable growth.
