Akranes strengthens the Faroese International Ship register

The Faroese International Ship Register (FAS) has welcomed another addition to its growing fleet with the registration of Akranes, the newest cargo vessel operated by Smyril Line.
Akranes is the sister ship of Skipanes, which joined the FAS fleet in August this year.
Together, the two modern ro-ro vessels represent a significant investment in North Atlantic shipping capacity and underline the continued confidence in the Faroese register.
Both vessels were built at the Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard in China and have been designed to support the increasing demand for freight transport across the North Atlantic region.
With the addition of Akranes, Smyril Line now has four vessels registered in FAS:
Akranes, Skipanes, Glyvursnes, and Mykines.
The growing presence of Smyril Line vessels in the register reflects the attractiveness and competitiveness of FAS as a maritime flag of choice for Faroese and international shipping operators.
The registration of Akranes further strengthens the position of FAS and highlights its role in supporting a modern, efficient, and internationally connected maritime industry in the Faroe Islands.
The Faroese shipping industry is experiencing an exciting period of growth, marked by newbuildings, significant investments, and high levels of activity.
