Boluda Shipping to acquire Samskip

Boluda Shipping and Samskip have signed an agreement under which Boluda will acquire Samskip, creating what the companies describe as Europe’s leading short-sea shipping network.
The transaction is expected to be completed on 1 January 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
The acquisition will combine Boluda’s maritime transport, port logistics and towage operations with Samskip’s strong position in Northern Europe and its multimodal logistics expertise. Together, the companies aim to offer customers more connections, greater capacity and more efficient transport solutions across Europe and West Africa.
The combined network is expected to include:
32 vessels
18 shipping routes
Connections across 28 countries
21 maritime terminals
5 rail terminals
More than 500 company-owned trucks
Annual throughput of over 750,000 TEU
Both companies emphasized that their existing cooperation in Spain has demonstrated the benefits of working together and helped identify opportunities for further growth.
Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, CEO of Samskip, will remain CEO and help lead the integration. The Samskip brand and its Icelandic heritage will also continue to be part of the combined business.
A key focus going forward will be strengthening links between Northern Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands and West Africa while expanding rail, road and maritime connections to provide more sustainable logistics solutions.
Rotterdam is expected to play a strategic role as a major hub for the enlarged network.
