New dry dock at Skála takes shape

Updated: 1 day ago

Construction of the new dry dock in Skála is progressing according to plan, with recent work focused on establishing a temporary cofferdam to ensure that the project can continue in dry conditions.

Articon is the constructor of the project.

The cofferdam, built from sheet piles, has been filled with 20,000 tons of sand, delivered to the site by Sandship. This structure will keep seawater out of the construction zone, allowing crews to solidify the dock’s foundation and continue work safely and efficiently.

Once completed, the new dry dock will measure 150 meters in length, 33 meters in width, and 12 meters in depth, significantly expanding the maritime infrastructure capacity in the region.

The development marks a major step forward for Skála and the Faroese maritime industry, positioning the location to accommodate larger vessels and more extensive repair and maintenance work in the future.
