FAS a stable and mature niche register

The chart shows that the number of vessels in the Faroese International Ship Register (FAS) has remained stable overall, with moderate fluctuations over the past decade.

From 2015 to 2018, the fleet stays at a relatively high level of around 85–90 vessels, reflecting a strong and steady register. This is followed by a gradual decline from 2019 to 2022, where the number falls to just above 70 vessels, likely influenced by global shipping and offshore market conditions.

From 2023 onwards, the trend shifts again, with a clear recovery as vessel numbers rise back toward 80 by 2025.

Overall, the development highlights FAS as a stable and mature niche register, where vessel numbers fluctuate with international markets but maintain a consistent long-term level focused on quality rather than size.
