An agreement was signed today for the construction of a catamaran that is 24 meters long and 12 meters wide. The catamaran will be delivered in April 2027. This will be the largest catamaran in the Faroe Islands and is a clear sign of the increasing need for larger deck space and more equipment on board.

Onboard the catamaran, there is accommodation for two people – each with their own private cabin. Additionally, there is a shared galley and living area for up to eight people. The catamaran is specially designed for use in the Faroese aquaculture industry and meets the requirements of the Faroese Maritime Authority.

To meet the demands of lifting and handling larger equipment used in fish farming, the catamaran is equipped with two large cranes – the larger being a KL200T4 crane with a 5-ton winch and Scanreco RRC wireless remote control. The crane can lift 8,030 kg at a reach of 16.0 meters. The other is a 60 tm crane.

The catamaran has two large side thrusters, each providing approximately 80 HP. It will be delivered with a DP (Dynamic Positioning) system.

The photo was taken of Hans Jákup Mikkelsen, CEO of MOWI in the Faroe Islands, and Mouritz Mohr, CEO of MEST, when the contract was signed.

“MEST closely follows developments in the aquaculture industry and aims to deliver advanced catamarans of high quality at competitive prices,” says Mouritz Mohr, CEO of MEST.
