Posta has announced that it will discontinue its international freight operations between the Faroe Islands and overseas markets, shifting its focus entirely to core postal and parcel services within the Faroe Islands. CEO Edvard Remberg said the decision is part of a strategic realignment to strengthen Posta’s primary mission—ensuring efficient delivery of parcels, goods, and mail domestically.
While Posta’s sea and air freight business has performed well operationally, it has struggled financially. After reassessing the long‑term outlook, Posta concluded that withdrawing from international freight would create a simpler and more stable operational structure.
Beginning 1 February 2026, Blue Water Shipping will take over Posta’s freight activities in both the Faroe Islands and Denmark. Customers will continue receiving the same services, and Posta will still deliver goods to the door domestically. Most employees from Posta and its Danish subsidiary, Posta Logistics, will be offered positions at Blue Water.

The transition gives Posta a more streamlined business profile, concentrating on domestic distribution in cooperation with logistics companies that require last‑mile delivery in the Faroe Islands. Remberg said the company will now focus fully on improving its parcel network and services for both private customers and businesses.
Blue Water Shipping stated that the acquisition strengthens its presence in the North Atlantic region and improves service continuity for customers needing integrated transport solutions between Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and international destinations.
All existing agreements will remain unchanged after the transition, and staff and customer experience will be prioritized for a smooth handover.
The move forms part of Blue Water’s long‑term development strategy in the North Atlantic, covering the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland.
Posta, which has faced financial challenges in recent years, expects the divestment to reduce turnover by around 30% and decrease staff numbers by 10–15%. Remberg described the change as “the beginning of a new chapter” for the company as it focuses exclusively on domestic operations.
